As frustration and concerns grow over the slow official national deployment of the Covid-19 vaccine – crippled by global vaccine shortages and vaccine nationalism – public health experts criticize the evasion and lack of transparency of the government on the matter.
In one week, just under 200,000 healthcare workers on the frontlines of the pandemic were vaccinated in the Sisonke study using the single injection vaccine from Johnson & Johnson (J&J) – sadly below that of the Ministry of Health’s initial target of vaccinating 1 million by the end of this month – questions about the exact date of arrival of the vaccines and the start date of the official rollout remain unanswered.
