Mr. Stephen Ashitey Adjei, member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from Tema East constituency, suggested the party should work on marketing a new flag bearer for the 2024 elections.

He said the party presented a particular flag bearer for the 2016 and 2020 elections, but Ghanaian voters rejected it, “we need to review our product for the electoral market and come up with a new product.”

Mr Adjei told the Ghanaian News Agency in an interview with Tema that the party’s national executive committee and functional executive must create an enabling environment for notable party members to compete for the place of flag bearer. .

He said that former President John Dramani Mahama executed his candidacy for the party and the nation, and humans have their limits, as a party we have to look at the big picture for the general interest of the nation.

Mr. Adjei expressed concern that former President Mahama had developed a close relationship with some leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a situation he described as dangerous.

He therefore suggested that the party seek a flag bearer who would unite all members of the NDC to follow a right path and gain power in the 2024 elections.

“Under our current leader, you could see that the party is divided and that no party can win elections in Ghana with a divided front fighting against itself,” he said.

He also condemned some loyalist supporters with a penchant for attacking key members, including; Members of Parliament, the current Speaker of Parliament, national, regional, constituency leaders and the Council of Elders.

Mr Adjei, also known as Moshake, said some of the party’s commentators who made divergent comments against some well-off party members were doing a disservice as it in the long run could damage the party’s image.
