A press release, signed by Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the Director-General of the Service, condemned the act and said that an administrative investigation was underway and that appropriate penalties would be applied if the suspects were found guilty.
“The Service is committed to cooperating with security agencies to unravel the circumstances that led to this unlawful act,” he said.
The statement said all Covid-19 vaccines are free and all citizens should be vigilant and report anyone who sells them.
He said the GHS will ensure that everyone who is eligible for the vaccine gets it for free.
On Friday March 19, 2021, the Ghana News Agency reported that National Security had arrested three people for their alleged involvement in the theft and sale of COVISHIELD COVID-19 vaccines owned by the Government of Ghana.
The report states that one of the suspects administered the vaccine at a cost of GH ¢ 200.00 per injection.
The three health workers had been placed in legal detention by a circuit court in Accra to reappear on April 1.
Two of the staff would work with the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) and the third would work with La Bawalashie Polyclinic in Accra.
