Warner Bros. will not be resting on its laurels anytime soon. Zack Snyder’s Justice League may not have launched on HBO Max until March 18, but the studio’s streaming service is already expanding for its next release – Godzilla vs Kong – on March 31.
Fans of the MonsterVerse are eagerly anticipating the colossal battle between the two titans, and that hype has likely increased following the film’s social embargo being lifted. Judging by the reactions of those lucky enough to see the film ahead of its release, Godzilla vs. Kong will be up for grabs.
Phase Zero podcast host Brandon Davis described it as “Fast & Furious but with giant monsters,” which from an action perspective sounds like the kind of movie we can support:

Fandango editor-in-chief Erik Davis confirmed his namesake’s opinion, calling Godzilla vs Kong a “real Midnight Monster movie” and the best of the last four monster movies:

Beyond the trailer, Grace Randolph humorously said that Adam Wingard’s film made Godzilla and Kong look like they were “fighting in a bar” and praised his brilliant work as CGI:

While praising the film’s feel and IMAX style, Collider’s Steve Weintraub said the scenes with humans were nothing special and “exactly what you’d expect”:

Not everyone praised the film, however. Scott Mendelson of Forbes said the film’s effects were “terrific”, but ultimately Godzilla vs Kong was “downsized for the masses” and there was “little reason for its existence beyond preventative promises”:

Godzilla vs Kong will launch simultaneously on HBO Max and in US theaters on March 31.
The film is also set to be released via video-on-demand platforms on April 1 in the UK, but it is not yet clear what services it will be available on.
