Executive Director of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) Mensah Thompson hit President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo hard for publishing a 21-page explanatory letter to civil society organizations (CSOs) on the reasons for the “ forced ” Retirement of the Auditor General, Daniel Yao Domelevo.

For the executive director of ASEPA, the letter makes no sense but rather made the situation worse for him [the President].

“Forgive me for being frank this morning; I have read all the 21 pages that came from the Presidency about the Domelevo retreat and the simple description I can give to the letter is that it makes no sense. There is absolutely no meaning in this letter the president sent. I find it hard to find a word that can better explain the letter from the presidency than insane, but I can’t find any, ”he admonished.

Smoking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Mensah Thompson noted that the letter from the presidency seriously exposed President Akufo-Addo’s agenda to kick the Auditor General out from the start, particularly the claim and suspicion that ‘he (Domelovo) had allegiance to former President John Mahama, due to his appointment.

It also presupposes that he has declared that some Supreme Court justices appointed last year by the president and being among the seven (7) judges in the just concluded election petition, have sworn allegiance to him (the president). .

“If you have parts of the letter, it exposes the president seriously and sometimes I wonder who advises the president on issues like this. Parts of the letter indicated that Mr. Domelevo was there and that he was swearing allegiance to the former president because it was the former president who appointed him, ”he said.

“Indeed, what President Akufo-Addo is saying is that the five Supreme Court judges he appointed last year and who were among the 7 judges on the election petition which has just ended him pledged allegiance because he named them. This is what President Akufo-Addo says in this letter. We cannot reduce our democracy to this level, ”he fulminated.

The ASEPA executive director further accused President Akufo-Addo of turning the presidency into an arena of both investigation and judgment.

“This is how far the presidency has fallen. Is it the president’s duty to write to someone that the person’s retirement is reduced? Isn’t there a state institution responsible for pensions, regulation and retirement? What is the job of SSNIT and the Civil Service Commission? So, does the president now take responsibility for SSNIT or what? I have never witnessed this anywhere in Ghana where if someone has to retire, it is the president who writes him a letter to leave his post … “

“The letter the president issued made matters worse because Ghana has become a laughing stock in the international community. Domelevo knows his retirement age and the audit department has all the administrative procedures that its employees have to follow when they retire and this should have been activated. The president is now spending his time finding people who are due to retire and writing to them to retire, ”he said.
