A 25-year-old lady, Harriet Kafui Ahiati, was murdered in the Volta regional capital, Ho.

The incident, which took place around midnight on Monday, also left the boyfriend, a popular footballer known as Jay, with deep knife cuts to his throat and stomach.

The boyfriend who is currently undergoing treatment at Ho University Hospital is said to have attempted suicide after killing the girlfriend in a fight.

He is believed to have attempted suicide by hanging on to a ceiling fan in the room, but failed.

According to the mother of the deceased, the couple had been dating for over six years, noting that they started while the deceased was still at JHS 3.

She noted that the two were ultimately allowed to continue the relationship after several unsuccessful attempts by the two families to separate the young couple early on.

She said, “Both have been there for over six years. We initially didn’t agree with the relationship, so we tried to pull them apart, but the two didn’t give in and so we let them move on. They lived well, the young man would come here, eat and sleep here.

“Until last night, I had no idea the two had serious problems. I only came back from my trip to meet a crowd here at my home and my daughter died in a pool of blood, ”she added.

The body of the deceased has since been taken to the morgue at Ho University Hospital by police while the suspect fights for his life at the same facility.

The development comes on top of a spate of spousal murders in recent times. Two such incidents have already been reported this month.
