The parliamentary appointments committee will examine on Thursday March 25 Ken Ofori-Atta, the candidates of the president of the Minister of Finance.

The public hearing, which is strictly by invitation, will be televised live on the public broadcaster GBC at 10 a.m.

The Committee was unable to vet Ofori-Atta after it was announced in February that he would be traveling to the United States for a special medical examination on the basis of his doctor’s advice.

This was due to the medical complications he suffered after recovering from Covid-19 in December 2020.

Mr. Ofori-Atta asked once again to be examined by the parliamentary appointments committee because his condition did not allow him to face it.

He was expected to return in two weeks, however, but he was unable to arrive on time.

In his absence, President Akufo-Addo appointed Charles Adu Boahen as his special representative at the Ministry of Finance.

In an unprecedented move, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, majority leader and minister of parliamentary affairs, has been appointed interim finance minister.

The Suame MP presented the government’s 2021 budget statement to Parliament.

Days later, during a virtual PwC post-budget forum, Mr. Ofori-Atta said he felt better attributing his speedy recovery to God and the prayers of the Ghanaians.

He noted that the doctors who “manipulated” him are even surprised by his rapid rate of recovery.

Mr. Ofori-Atta also thanked Mr. Charles Adu Boahen and the ministry staff for the way they handled the preparation and presentation of the budget.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express Monday, Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo Markin told host Evans Mensah that Mr. Ofori-Atta was back in town.

The Effutu MP who is a member of the Committee said they were awaiting a communication from the presidency to proceed with the review of the Databank Group co-founder.
