Serena Williams continues to show her support for Meghan Markle following the Duchess’s revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Shortly after Markle’s heated conversation – in which she described the struggles she experienced behind the scenes with the Royal Family and the British press – Williams released a statement of support on Instagram. Now in a new conversation with Stuart Weitzman Shine Series (she is the brand’s global spokesperson), Williams explains why she decided to speak out.
“Meghan is a great person and I think the epitome of strength, the epitome of confidence, the epitome of selflessness, and the epitome of everything is just her and everything she’s been through,” Williams said. to Behnaz Ghahramani, chief marketing officer of Stuart Weitzman officer.

Serena Williams added that Meghan Markle is the “strongest person” she knows.
“I don’t know of anyone else who could handle anything on such a global scale as the way she has had to handle things that are just plain wrong minute after minute. Not even day after day. Just minute after minute, another false allegation is thrown at her, ”she said. “I think it was important for me to say something because I’m tired of sitting down and seeing all this negativity that just isn’t true.”
In her original Instagram statement, Williams said of Markle: “She teaches me every day what it means to be truly noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she suffered. I know firsthand the sexism and racism that institutions and the media use to defame women and people of color in order to belittle, break and demonize us. We must recognize our obligation to speak out against malicious and unfounded gossip and tabloid journalism. Mental health and the consequences of systemic oppression and victimization are devastating, isolating and too often deadly.
