Jomoro MP Dorcas Affo-Toffey is pushing for the reopening of land borders across the country to alleviate hardship for residents living in and around border towns, especially those in Jomoro constituency.

According to her, the government in place has ignored the economic life of the inhabitants of these regions.

He, therefore, argued that the continued closure of borders has caused untold hardship due to reduced patronage of services, with several others also losing their capital.

She also revealed that there had been a mass exodus of young men and women from her constituency due to the decline in economic activity.

On March 30, 2020, the government imposed emergency border restrictions to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although the president reopened the country’s airports for international travel in September 2020, land borders have yet to be opened.

But the member for Jomoro insists that the measures put in place to contain the spread of the virus in airports can be replicated at the various land entry points to control the disease.
