5 unhappy Man Utd players after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s contract extended

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to win an exceptional new deal with Manchester United – even if he doesn’t win a trophy this season.

The Norwegian has been in the driver’s seat since late 2018, but to date he has yet to win silverware.

United are in the Europa League quarter-finals, but even if they crash out of the tournament, they will still have extra time.

His deal was due to end next season, but will be awarded a new three-year contract, likely two years plus the option of an additional 12 months.

Man Utd set to offer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a new contract to stay at the club until 2024

Solskjaer is also set to see his salary increase from £ 7.5million to £ 10million, with Executive Vice President Ed Woodward confident the club are on the right track under his leadership.

So, with Solskjaer now linked with the club until the summer of 2024, here are a few of his squad who might be more upset with the news than others.

Eric Bailly

Recent reports claimed Bailly felt ‘disrespected’ by lack of opportunities under United boss

The center-back appeared to be keen to push for a regular starting place under Solskjaer earlier this season.

However, he has since returned to the bench with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof the clear top picks.

Bailly’s contract expires at the end of next season and although United have opened talks, the player is said to be willing to ignore any potential offers.

It has been claimed that Bailly feels ‘disrespected’ by Solskjaer and that no matter how good he plays he will never be a regular starter.

Solskjaer extending his time at Old Trafford could be the catalyst for the defender to force a move.

Brandon williams

Solskjaer handed his senior debut last season to full-back, making 36 appearances in all competitions.

But his progress has been slowed this time around, playing just six Premier League minutes in total.

Although he can play on both the left and right flanks, Solskjaer does not appear willing to risk the two-year-old in any competition.

It is likely that this news means that he will either look to leave on loan or permanently at the end of the campaign.

Donny van de Beek

Van de Beek struggled for minutes under Solskjaer

Despite being the man of the duogut when Van de Beek arrived from Ajax last summer, Solskjaer did not offer the £ 35million of regular opportunities.

The Dutchman has sometimes made a frustrated figure as his place at this summer’s European Championship is now in doubt.

On the rare occasions that the United boss has played the midfielder, he has failed to capitalize on his strengths and still seems unsure of his best position.

The two are now long term encounters at Old Trafford, they either need to find a resolution or it is the player who might seek new pasture.

Jesse Lingard

Acting manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer talks to Manchester United's Jesse Lingard in action during a first team training session at Aon Training Complex on December 28, 2018 in Manchester, England.
Solskjaer’s comments hinted Lingard’s future may be distant from Old Trafford

While Solskjaer has refused to close the door on a potential return for Lingard, his recent comments make it unlikely.

Speaking of his superb form on loan with West Ham, the United boss admitted he would be in direct competition with talisman Bruno Fernandes.

If that’s the only role Solskjaer sees for the England international, his future at his childhood club looks bleak.

Now, the best way for everyone is to seek a long-term exit.

Anthony Martial

Man Utd are believed to be on the hunt for Anthony Martial replacement this summer

The Frenchman has been a regular at the current United boss, but there is no doubt he has his eyes on a potential replacement.

Martial’s role has been clearly identified as a center forward, but with Erling Haaland on the radar, his days in the roster could be numbered.

They are expected to make some sort of approach for the Borussia Dortmund superstar and even if they fail to secure that deal, it is likely that at least one striker will arrive.

A new manager may have sought to transfer the 25-year-old to a new position and given him new life. It now seems more unlikely.
