The giant container ship that blocked the Suez Canal for nearly a week was fully floated on Monday and traffic on the waterway resumed.
Witnesses said the container ship Ever Given was moving and an expedition tracker and Egyptian television showed it positioned in the center of the channel.
Aided by the peak of high tide, a flotilla of tugs managed to tear the bulbous bow of the skyscraper-sized ship from the sandy shore of the canal.
Earlier today, the Egyptian Suez Canal Authority (SCA) said the container ship Ever Given had been partially refloated and turned in the “right direction”.
The news comes a week after the container ship ran aground in high winds, blocking one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

The failure of Ever Given has created disruption in the global shipping industry that could take weeks, if not months, to be eliminated, shipping group Maersk said.
“Even when the canal is reopened, the ripple effects on global capacity and equipment are significant,” the world’s largest container shipping company said in a statement to its customers.
Maersk has three ships stuck in the canal and 29 more waiting to enter, he said, adding that he had so far rerouted 15 ships to sail south to Africa instead. “Assessing the current backlog of ships, it could take six days or more for the full queue to pass,” he said.

Suez Canal ship bailout is not easy: Boskalis CEO
News about the partial bailout of the giant container ship stuck in the Suez Canal is good, but completing the operation would not be a ‘piece of cake,’ Boskalis CEO Peter Berdowski told state radio on Monday Dutch.
Boskalis is the parent company of Smit Salvage, which aided in efforts to dislodge the vessel.
A new tug would arrive and water would be injected under the bow of the ship to help free it, but if those efforts didn’t work, the containers might have to be removed, Berdowski said.

The oil still crumbles in the middle of the Suez jam
Oil fell more than 2% after the Suez Canal announced that rescue teams had successfully moved the giant container ship that has been obstructing the vital global trade passage for nearly a week.
Brent oil was down $ 1.38, or 2.1%, at $ 63.19 a barrel at 5:11 am GMT.
U.S. crude fell 1.48 cents, or 2.4 percent, to $ 59.49 a barrel.

The huge container ship blocking the Suez Canal in Egypt has been partially refloated, the Suez Canal Authority said, giving hope that the busy waterway will soon be reopened.
After further dredging and excavation over the weekend, the efforts of rescue workers from the authority and a team from the Dutch company Smit Salvage made it possible to free the vessel using tugs in the early hours of Monday, two maritime and maritime sources told Reuters news agency.
The authority said Ever Given has been righted in the canal and that further towing operations will resume once the tide comes up later Monday.
