Australian High Commissioner to Ghana Andrew Barnes said his country is not trying to impose lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, gay and intersex (LGBTQI) on Ghanaians.

According to him, they believe that sometimes the culture will adapt to change.

He said this when he visited the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

“We are not trying to promote or encourage LGBTQI + people in Ghana. We believe that sometimes the culture will adapt to change, ”suggested Barnes.

In response, Bagbin indicated that LGBTQI is an abominable act that cannot have a place in Ghana.

“The issue of LGBTQI + is something we consider an abomination. This is something we hate and therefore we will continue to follow our culture.

“We certainly won’t want to go to Europe and try to impose something like polygamy on them, we won’t,” he said.
