Accra Sewerage Systems signs MoU to expand operations

Accra Sewerage Systems Ghana Ltd. hinted at plans to expand and modernize its liquid waste management and treatment plant, as well as its use and technologies to process more liquid waste in Ghana.

During the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Ghana and France to start the expansion works, the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, asked the contractor to build and to install robust technology, to help resolve the unique composition of liquid waste in the country.

“The issue of sanitation is a top priority in Ghana, so we need to expand and modernize technologies to meet the growing need for liquid waste disposal in the country. As the country puts in place measures to achieve the goal of being Africa’s cleanest city, we must work hard to achieve this goal, hence our decision to expand and modernize ”, a- he declared.

Dr Agyepong also noted that the work on the Kumasi liquid waste treatment plant is nearing completion and it will soon start to meet the needs of the people of the Ashanti region for liquid waste management.

However, similar works in the western region, Tema and Tamale have started, and the capacity to build will help to receive all kinds of liquid waste and prevent the indiscriminate dumping of sewage into the country.

EMO CEO Phillippe Hardouin said the partnership is the first of its kind for a French tech company to partner with Ghana to tackle waste issues.

At the same time, EMO is an environmental technology company based in France that will help increase the plant’s capacity to process its current intake of 2,000 to 3,500 cubic meters of liquid waste per day.

Additional technology will be added to help screen solid wastes that are normally found in liquid wastes brought to the facility.
