This was announced by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, at the start of a national tour of water bodies.
Minister Abena Dapaah was accompanied on the tour by Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and other key government officials.
The delegation first visited the Sekyere Hemang water treatment plant which supplies water to large parts of the central region before heading to the Daboase sewage treatment plant which supplies water to parts of the regions of the region. west and center.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, April 19, 2021, Ms. Dapaah said the tour was part of the government’s collaborative efforts to systematically eradicate illegal small-scale mining and restore the sanctity of water bodies in the country. .
She revealed that the government is embarking on several water projects but that the water intake points of these water bodies have been compromised by the activities of illegal miners, stressing that as a result, the government has instructed them. regional security councils to intervene and help combat illegal mining in these areas. areas.
The Minister took the opportunity to call on the chiefs and other traditional rulers of these regions to support the government in eradicating the threat from Galamsey.
