Actor Aamir Khan and filmmaker Kiran Rao announced their divorce after 15 years of marriage in a joint statement. The couple said they would co-parent their son, Azad Rao Khan, and continue their professional partnership with the Paani Foundation and “other projects that (they) are passionate about.”
“During these 15 beautiful years together, we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to start a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other, ”read a statement released by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao.
The statement added that Aamir and Kiran separated “some time ago” and added that despite living separately, the couple will “raise and raise” their son Azad Rao Khan together. “We started a planned separation some time ago, and now we feel comfortable formalizing this arrangement, to live apart while sharing our lives like an extended family does. We remain devoted parents to our son Azad, whom we will raise and raise together, ”the statement said.

“We will also continue to work as collaborators on films, the Paani Foundation and other projects that we are passionate about. Aamir and Kiran first met while filming Lagaan, in which he was playing the lead role, and she was an assistant director. They were married on December 28, 2005. Aamir was previously married to Reena Dutta and has two children, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan, with her.
