The city has already reported 6,083 cases of chikungunya and one death to date. This compares 122 cases and no deaths reported in 2020.

The incredible increase in cases has been blamed on the attention of most people who have focused on trying to avoid contamination with Covid-19. As a result, care to prevent other illnesses such as dengue or chikungunya ended up being overlooked.

In addition, they indicate that there is a higher incidence of mosquitoes.

Dengue cases in the city are also on a significant rise, officials said – 3,698 cases so far compared to 324 last year.
