On drag tracks, muscle cars and supercars are common. More recently, Tesla models have also become popular competitors in straight line racing. No matter what drag race you take part in in the world, we can guarantee that you will hardly find passenger vans at the starting point.
But not the Mercedes V-Class, or more precisely this unpretentious black V-Class in a video posted by Mike Automotive. While this German van doesn’t really look fast at first glance (its wheels are the only thing noticeably improved from the outside), it’s actually powered by a twin-turbo V8.

GAD Motors is responsible for manufacturing this sleeper, a German tuning company known for their high-powered designs. Originally, the V-Class here was powered by a 190 hp (142 kilowatt) diesel engine. GAD saw an opportunity to fit a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 into its engine bay, but the powertrain didn’t adapt well.
To solve the problem, the German tuner had to create a custom engine for the project, which resulted in an M177 with modified GAD parts. Yes, that’s the same mill you’ll find inside the Aston Martin DBX, which now powers this luxurious passenger van.
Best of all, the interior of this V-Class has not been altered, so we’re pretty sure the driver and passengers can navigate unlimited sections of the German Autobahn comfortably and in style.
The final power of the custom-made M177 engine is 585 hp (436 kW). This incredible performance figure is paired with ceramic brakes and a modified suspension. GAD also installed a new exhaust system, which you will hear in the video.
So the next time you see a V-Class on the drag strip, don’t judge it right away. You might want to open its hood first before challenging the humble minivan in a drag race.
