The ministerial committee investigating the shooting at Ejura in the Ashanti region said the interior minister was not part of its delegation that visited the community on Monday, July 5.
The Committee was in the community to interact with the Traditional Authority of Ejura, and also on a fact-finding mission, as part of its work.
To set the record straight, the Committee’s media liaison officer, Mr. Kwabia Owusu Mensah, told media in Kumasi that the Committee came to the city as part of its work.
The committee chaired by Judge George Kingsley Koomson began sitting in the Prempeh boardroom in Kumasi on Tuesday and would invite witnesses to appear before it.
Home Secretary Ambrose Dery during his recent visit to Ejura announced the establishment of the three-member Ministerial Committee to investigate the matter.
It has ten days to complete its work and submit recommendations to the government, he said.
Two young men, Nasiru Yussif and Murtala Mohammed, both in their 20s, who lost their lives in the shooting, had since been buried.
The incident was sparked by the death of one Ibrahim Mohammed, alias Kaaka, 45, who was allegedly brutally assaulted while returning home on a motorcycle three days before the unrest.
Three defendants, Ibrahim Issaka, Fuseini Alhassan and Iddi Mohammed, who were arrested in connection with Kaaka’s death, have been taken into custody by the Asokwa District Court.
They have been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and murder and will reappear on July 22.
During their visit to Ejura, Judge Koomson called on the public to support the committee’s work as it investigated the shooting and the circumstances that led to Kaaka’s death.
