In recent weeks, many Ghanaians have expressed concern about the constant deployment of the military to brutalize citizens.
The country has seen the use of the army in the 2020 elections result in the deaths of eight people and the recent deployment of the army to Ejura which has caused the deaths of two innocent Ghanaians without any justification.
Dr Justice Moses Aheto, Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana and Researcher at the University of Southampton, UK, in response to a question about the state of insecurity in Ghana on the NDC PRO- FORUM HOUR on Radio Gold, last Sunday, July On December 4, 2021, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghanaian Armed Forces, President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo, attacked the frequent misuse of soldiers in connection with ordinary civil actions.
According to Dr Aheto, using the military as a tool to brutalize unarmed citizens seeking justice for the murder of Ibrahim Mohammed AKA Kaaka was undemocratic of a democratically elected president posing as a human rights lawyer. He condemned the excessive use of the military by the current government.
The respected lecturer who has some security experience felt that in the 21st century, no Ghanaian should die for expressing their opinion on the country’s poor state of development.
Dr Benedicta Fosu-Mensah, senior researcher at the University of Ghana and member of the NDC national communications team who was also present on the show, explained that the government had failed to take into account the security situation in the country. country seriously.
They see the current security threat as usual. She further stated that one of the causes of the collapse of security in the country is the blatant disregard for professional standards in the process of recruiting people into our security agencies, namely the Ghana Police Service and the armed forces of Ghana.
The government has recruited a lot of thugs from its party into various security forces whose only interest is to auction off the nuclear power plant. She advised the military high command not to let the government in power drag the image of the army in the mud.
On the issue of the #FixTheCountry campaign being the cause of Ibrahim Mohammed’s death, Dr Nana Ama Brown Klutse, senior lecturer at the University of Ghana and member of the NDC Professionals Forum, pointed out that the #FixTheCountry campaign is a legitimate call from Ghanaians and that should not be the reason why the government should use its party thugs to brutalize and threaten its citizens.
She stressed that repairing the country is the duty of President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo and as such he should sit down and improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.
Ghana is gradually becoming a failed state due to difficult economic conditions, insecurity, broken promises from the NPP government and a disaster in our education system. All this incompetence has prompted many Ghanaians to demand that the country be fixed.
Dr Justice Moses Aheto and Dr Nana Ama Browne Klutse have both called for an independent investigation into the murder of Ibrahim Mohammed.
