Governors of the five southeastern states have come under heavy criticism for remaining silent on the plight of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB.
A pro-democracy group, the Foundation for the Advocacy and Development of Environmental Rights, FENRAD, condemned the silence of the governors.
FENRAD noted that the silence of the governors since the illegal smuggling into the country of Nnamdi Kanu is part of the reasons why Nigerian citizens under the jurisdiction of the five governors transfer their loyalty and allegiance to the leader of the IPOB and his secessionist candidacy.
“If the five regional governors had been aware of their responsibility without creating the kind of leadership vacuum, discontent and disconnection that they created, which resulted in disillusionment among ordinary people in the region, the youthful energy which pushed for the exit of the region from the rest of Nigeria or the plebiscite restoration of Biafra would otherwise have been taken advantage of (regional / national), deplores FENRAD ”, declared the group in a statement signed by comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor , its executive director and made available to DAILY POST on Sunday.
The group stressed that Kanu’s tactic may not have been the most encouraging, but that his journey is legitimate under guaranteed human rights documents.
“There is no need to remind the governors of the South East of the carnage in Biafra or how appropriate it is to revisit this past and save our collective future when they (the governors) have all lived through the war of thirty months.
“A time like this when ethnic sentiment plays a role in dealing with unrest such as terror, banditry, kidnappings and the shepherds’ rampage in Nigeria, and where an Islamic cleric like Sheik Gumi had become the sole bearer. Nigeria’s de facto word in charge of the nation’s back. channel with bandits, or better yet Nigerian ambassador plenipotentiary to ungoverned territorial forest areas and reserves occupied by bandits, the governors of the South-East must also be heard as the voice of their region.
“Governors like El-Rufai and others in the North, who are no less governors than their counterparts in the South-East, as well as other senior federal government officials, including the president himself who has called everything an ethnic nationality of “point in a circle” showed the region where the government led by the APC is heading and yet none of the elected officials of a region say “resign!”.
“The five governors need to remember that they were elected to be good representatives and the voice of their people, not to be in cahoots or in cahoots with the federal government.

“Today, the operational style, the basis and the other logistical elements concerning Ebube Agu are not even in the public domain. So the question becomes of whom silence and indifference created Eastern Security Network, ESN in the first place? The group wondered.
