The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Sunday 11e July 2021, commissioned the 85-bed Gonja District Central Hospital, located in Buipe, Savannah region, at the start of its 2-day tour of the region.

Buipe Hospital, construction of which began in 2018, is one of six (6) medical facilities for which the government has secured a € 80 million facility from the Raiffesen Bank of Austria.

The hospital, along with five (5) others in Somanya, Sawla, Bamboi, Tolon and Ketu North, was built by Vamed Engineering GmbH of Austria, together with chairman Akufo-Addo, on 20e October 2020, commissioning of the ultramodern sixty (60) bed hospital for Weta, in the northern district of Ketu.

Buipe Hospital is an 85-bed hospital which is equipped with an outpatient department, a radiology unit, a laboratory, a pharmacy, a dental unit, male and female departments. , as well as pediatric and maternity units.

Indeed, before the construction of the Buipe hospital, its residents had to rely on the University Hospital of Tamale, or the Hospital of the Holy Family of Techiman. Considering the distances to be traveled from Buipe to Tamale or Techiman, it had become imperative that the government build a health center in Buipe to meet the health needs of residents of the central district of Gonja.

The president hoped that the hospital would help improve the health needs of people in the district.

Indeed, in addition to the new hospital in the district of Buipe, President Akufo-Addo also revealed that the government has built health facilities in Mpaha, Digma and Tosinape and Kigberipe, all in the central district of Gonja.

Earlier today, the President paid a courtesy visit to the Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura, Tutumba Boresa Sulemana Jakpa, to thank him and the Region for the support offered to the New Patriotic Party during the elections of 2020.

Addressing the demand for potable water made by the Yagbonwura, President Akufo-Addo said he had already cut the ground for the construction of the Damongo water supply to address the problem.

He explained that COVID-19 had delayed the implementation of the project, “but I am happy to inform you that by the first week of August, the contractor will come to the site to start the work”.

Reiterating his commitment to build some 1,500 kilometers of paved roads in 2021, he assured the Yagbonwura that the savannah region would benefit from this project, and reassured the Overlord of Gonja that the construction of the Regional Chamber of Chiefs of Savannah will also be starting in earnest.

New RCC building

President Akufo-Addo also visited the site of the construction of a new 3-story administrative block of the Regional Coordination Council (RCC) for the Savannah region, located in Damongo.

The RCC building is currently 70% complete with concrete, cinder block, plastering, roofing, door frame, electrical piping and wiring and plumbing work all completed.

Indeed, in accordance with the President’s directives aimed at ensuring a spatial distribution of state institutions in the newly created regions, a 2-storey administrative block for the regional directorate of education is also being built in Damongo, a 2-storey administrative block for the regional health directorate. in Daboya, a 2-storey administrative block for the regional agricultural directorate in Bole, and a 2-storey administrative block for the regional service roads department in Salaga.
