Ghana and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) should collaborate in the development of the education sectors of both countries for mutual benefits.
The two countries will adopt the best international learning practices in the fields of education, technology, school leadership, responsibility and teaching of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to positively transform the two economies.
This decision aims to ensure that both countries benefit from best practices for the development of their populations.
This was revealed when Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum led a team from his ministry on a three-day educational tour of the United Arab Emirates last week.
The two countries took advantage of the tour to deepen their ties.
Dr Adutwum said the trip was part of efforts to improve Ghana’s education system by drawing on international best practices.
He explained that everything is done to make the most of the policies, strategies and the like that have the chance to reverse the development of the nation, no matter where it is sought from, provided it is good for the nation.
“I have to say that I am very impressed with the state of educational infrastructure in this country,” said Dr Adutwum after visiting some educational institutions in Dubai.
Again, he said, “I strongly believe that Ghana needs to move away from routine rectangular structures for our school buildings and explore other cost-effective but built to last, versatile and state-of-the-art structures.”
The Minister of Education of the United Arab Emirates, Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Al Hammadi, for his part congratulated Ghana for its efforts in the development of its education sector.
He is committed to collaborating with universities in Ghana in the areas of research and training of lecturers and other staff for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The UAE’s education minister once again pledged his support to the nation by asking his Ghanaian counterpart to submit for review the areas in which he needed help. He is committed to contributing to the successful transformation of Ghana’s economy through education.
The two education ministers pledged to sign a memorandum of understanding shortly after areas of collaboration have been agreed.
