Clearly Netflix should change its mind on ‘Manifest’ season 4

Well, it finally happened. After nearly setting Netflix’s all-time record for consecutive days at No.1, Manifest was knocked down by the new season of Virgin River and slipped to second place.

And yet regardless, staying at the # 1 slot for so long is still deeply impressive and reinforces what fans have believed for some time now. Netflix was wrong not to pick up Manifesto for Season 4 after it was canceled after Season 3 by NBC.

I drew the ire of fans and even the show’s creator for suggesting that fans “play” Netflix, in part by running the show nonstop to keep it so high. And yet basically I think it’s a combination of watchful fan streaming, real rewatches, and then a snowball effect of new viewers watching the show. because he was so high on Netflix for so long. And to be clear, I think the capacity partially playing Netflix is ​​actually commendable and shows more passion for this series than I’ve seen for most others. It’s smart, and there’s no reason Netflix can’t reward fans’ efforts with another season, reversing their previous decision.

Netflix switched to Season 4 of Manifest when it had been at the top of its charts for about a week. But that was about three weeks ago, and he stayed at the top until Virgin River pulled him off this weekend.

Looking at my colleague Travis Bean’s list of Netflix’s record breaking and best performing shows, Manifest sits among Ginny and Georgia, Tiger King, Queen’s Gambit, Who Killed Sara, Bridgerton and others in the top 15 least. longest consecutive streaks number one. The common thread of all this? Almost all of them have two or more seasons. The ones that weren’t meant to stretch beyond one season (Queen’s Gambit) and others may just not have been renewed. again, but they are not canceled (Shadow and Bone). The manifesto would be the only is on the list, and it’s in second place, to be canceled.

The main question is… why? Why would Netflix spend saving what is a show with clearly a massively fanbase engaged? Manifest also has the added benefit that in the grand scheme of television it is relatively inexpensive. It’s not a sci-fi series packed with special effects in every scene. It doesn’t have any expensive top players in its cast. Picking up the show wouldn’t be an expensive proposition for Netflix compared to the hundreds of millions they’ve spent on content each year.

Plus, it’s going to seem pretty dumb to have a show that’s been # 1 on Netflix for a month picked up by a rival service, which fans will then lavish with praise and subscriptions, be it Amazon, HBO Max. or Hulu. I know Netflix no longer wants to be known as the place that records canceled and underperforming network shows, but I think exceptions can be made, and clearly Manifest can be one.

I’m not even saying that as a fan. I’ve never watched the show (and I didn’t really want to start until I got a fourth season somewhere, so I know it won’t end on a cliffhanger). But I do know that when a show performs so well for such a long time on your service, whether through constant fan streaming to uplift it, genuine interest, or both, you should be careful and probably give it a singular season, at the very least. Goodwill alone will be worth it, and it seems like an easy victory that Netflix is ​​currently throwing away for no real reason.
