Social commentator Bernard Allotey Jacobs congratulated First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Second Lady Samira Bawumia for reimbursing their allowances.
Critics have condemned the payment of salaries to the president and Veep’s wives.
For some Ghanaians, it is not necessary that the first and second ladies receive monthly salaries as recommended by the committee of Professor Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu.
Because of what she calls “Extremely negative opinions” critics, the First Lady in consultation with President Akufo-Addo ” decided to reimburse all the sums paid to him as compensation from the date of entry into office of the president, that is to say from January 2017 to date, amounting to GH ¢ 899,097.84. “
The second lady also indicated that she would reimburse GH ¢ 887,482 she received in compensation from January 2017 to March 2021.
Allotey Jacobs, addressing host Kwami Sefa Kayi the Peace FM ” Kokrokoo ”, considered that the reimbursement of the First Lady is an act of dignity saying She dignified herself. People will respect her for that. ”
