The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) must lead efforts to hold Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong accountable for his actions and statements.

He said on key points on TV3 on Saturday, July 17 that holding Mr. Agyapong accountable for his management should not be seen as an agenda by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), otherwise it would lead to a political characterization of the ‘effort.

“Isn’t it true that part of the reason the Honorable Kennedy Agyapong has repeatedly made and threatened people in one way or another is that there is a polarized political environment in which he enjoys.

“I wish this was not seen as the NDC holding the Honorable Kennedy Agyapong accountable because he is an opponent of the NDC, this must be the role or the collective responsibility of all MPs.”

“His own party should take the initiative to play this role to hold him accountable.”

A security expert, Adib Sani, also asked the parliamentary privileges committee to deal with Mr. Agyapong following his remarks against a journalist.

He also said on the key points of Saturday (July 17) that Mr. Agyapong gained notoriety for making such statements against journalists, but that such action was taken against him.

“Politicians, whatever they say, have a direct implication in the thoughts, processes, opinions and perceptions of the people they inspire. So you could say that to your audience, but it has implications. It is not the first time.

“As I always say, if we really were in a serious country, the honorable Member would have been called by the police and asked difficult questions. Let us not forget that it is in the same circumstances that our colleague Ahmed Suale was killed and that the chairman of the Committee on Defense and the Interior of the Parliament is saying such derogatory, so irresponsible things, this is what I am saying. can not understand. It’s worrying.

“I hope that the leadership of the parliament will take action because it has become one too many.”

It comes after President Alban Bagbin referred Mr. Agyapong to Parliament’s Privileges Committee for his remarks against media group journalist Erastus Asare Donkor.

Mr. Agyapong is said to have threatened on Friday July 9 to attack Mr. Asare Donkor, “for the journalistic work that the latter carried out during the recent shootings and murders in Ejura” on his television channel.

The Multimedia Group has filed a formal complaint against Mr. Agyapong.

On Wednesday, July 14, the former broadcaster raised the issue on the home floor and asked the President to refer the matter to the Privileges Committee.

He said: “Mr. Speaker, I think that as a former journalist I feel obliged to draw the attention of the House to this conduct of an Honorable colleague of this House who, in my opinion, discredit this House.

“Mr. President, I urge you to exercise your powers under 27 and refer this conduct of the Honorable which is becoming unacceptable, to the Committee on Privileges to verify the veracity of the comments which have been made and to recommend sanctions if possible which will have a deterrent effect on other members who might be tempted to act like him.

In response to his request, the Chairman therefore referred Mr. Agyapong to the committee.

He said he could not take a decision on Mr. Agyapong over his remarks against a journalist in Ghana.

That decision of whether or not the conduct resembles an abuse of privilege, he said, is for lawmakers as a House to make.

“As it stands, I have to send it to the Privileges Committee. I would like to stress that it is the House that will make the decision, it is not the speaker, it is not another person outside the Chamber.

“It will be your collective wisdom that will come to the conclusion if what is alleged is merely an allegation or is supported by facts and if those facts constitute a contempt of the House and an abuse of member privilege,”

“It is important for me to stress here that the privilege and immunity of freedom of expression apply fully in plenary and in committee, and not when members are outside the proceedings or on the radio and on the radio. television. You do not have the right, this privilege, this immunity to say anything because you are a member of Parliament.

“We are not above the law. This is for good reasons because you represent a large number of people, you should have full immunity to be able to say what people say they want you to say. That’s why you say it here and you’re covered.

“This immunity does not extend to you anywhere else. So glad the committee is looking into this, submits the report.

Meanwhile, reacting to this on his Oman FM radio station on Thursday, July 15, Kennedy Agyapong said, “You cannot use the media and the police to gag me. You say I should be referred to the Committee on the Privileges of Parliament.

“I want to insult. He’s a stupid MP, Suhuyini is stupid. He hasn’t accomplished anything in life so he wants Ghana to burn.

“I am so disappointed with him. He uses everything for politics. The privileges committee is made up of human beings or they think being a member of Parliament is all I have, they think being a member of Parliament is the only thing I rely on. If they do away with parliament, I will keep telling the truth, no one can stop me.

He insisted that the owner of the Joy FM company told him that the workers had decided to sabotage the government because the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration was dealing with them, a claim denied by the government. management of Joy FM.

“I will continue to speak the truth and no one will silence me. The truth is that Joy FM has been dishonored, they should write a letter of apology to the families who lost their loved ones in the Ejura incident. They should also write to injured people.

“I repeat again that they are corrupt, I dare Kwasi Twum and he claims he didn’t say it, he should be ashamed of himself. He said in my office that Joy FM staff threatened to sabotage the government for not being looked after. If they do grow, I will expose everything related to Joy FM.
