Tamale Central Constituency MP (MP) on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) list Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed has publicly announced a change of title.
The MP in an interview with Daybreak Upper East on A1 Radio monitored by MyNewsGh.com said that being labeled “honorable” had no pride in Ghana, unlike other countries.
The Tamale Central MP said he was disappointed with the use of the title “honorable” by some Ghanaian leaders.
According to him, even those who lose the legislative elections still carry the title “honorable” which he finds humiliating.
He said the bad behavior of some MPs has also shaken the title “honorable” in the country.
He placed particular emphasis on the conduct of Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, describing his public statements as unparliamentary.
He therefore called on the public to refer to him as Comrade Murtala Mohammed.
“One of the reasons I insisted that I not be treated as honorable is because of the conduct of people like Kennedy Agyapong, it is such pride to be associated and identified as an honorable but in our country, even when someone challenges Assembly Man and loses, he is called honorable ”.
He added that, “I expect Honorable to be absolutely honorable, but the conduct of figures like Kennedy Agyapong is dishonorable and there is no pride in wanting to be associated with this title. Call me Murtala or Comrade Murtala. I do the job as I do as a representative of the people of Tamale Central, these titles mean nothing to me.
