The government lacks the political will to operationalize the Komenda sugar factory – Former member of the board of directors

The government headed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo lacks the political will to operationalize the former Komenda sugar factory in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem municipality of the central region.

Mr. Ransford Chatman Vanni-Amoah, former Secretary of the Board of the Komenda Sugar Factory said that the non-functioning of the factory was a ploy to thwart the presidential ambition of Mr. John Alan Kojo Kyerematen, knowing full well that if the factory is functioning, he would take the merit of minister of the sector.

Mr. Vanni-Amoah’s statement was in reaction to a recent statement by Minister of Public Enterprise, Mr. Joseph Cudjoe, on the state of the plant and efforts to make it operational.

He could not understand the attempts by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the minister to blame the government led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the non-functioning of the factory after five years in government due to internal protest of the NPP.

Refuting the claims, Mr Vanni-Amoah said the plant was not in operation due to what he described as the government’s “unholy deal” with some sugar importers.

“My attention was drawn to a statement by the Minister of Public Enterprise, Mr. Joseph Cudjoe, claiming that the Komenda Sugar Factory was a mess created by the previous government.

“After watching the video, I would like to state unequivocally that the government of the nuclear power plant does not have the political will to operationalize the Komenda Sugar Factory due to its unholy deal with some sugar importers,” a- he noted.

“The minister in the video said it was foolishness for a government to set up a factory without raw materials or that the government should stop building roads and use the money to grow sugar cane?” This question indicates that man is clueless and empty, ”he said.

Mr Vanni-Amoah said that “the genuine information we have indicates that funds have been taken from some sugar importers for their 2020 election campaign, the Komenda Sugar Factory will remain inactive until Akufo Addo completes its mandate. They will continue their blame games with the Ghanaians until a new government takes office.

“Mr. Cudjoe should ask Mr. Alan Kyerematen why he sold the 125 acre nursery to ‘akpeteshi’ distillers in July 2018? Isn’t it complete madness for a factory that needs raw materials for the operation to sell those available to distillers?

Mr Vanni-Amoa further asked: “Does the ‘ignorant’ Cudjoe know that an Indian EXIM Bank facility of $ 24.54 million has been approved by the 6th parliament to cover cane development? sugar, irrigation and subcontracting program? Has his government used this money for road construction and rehabilitation? “

He said that by listening carefully to the minister, one would understand that this whole NPP government knows what it is supposed to do to grow sugar cane and wonder why it has failed to develop cane since it started. took power.

“How many months does it take for the cane to mature and how many years is the nuclear power plant in power,” he asked.
