The head of academic relations at the University of Science and Technology Kwame Nkrumah (KNUST) said the school had not recorded any cases of Covid-19 on campus.
This is contrary to information contained in an internal memo claiming an upsurge in Covid-19 cases on campus.
Dr Norris Bekoe, who confirmed the authenticity of the statement, said it was intended to remind the academic community of the protocols.
“The statement was an internal note just to warn the entire university community. You know we have a huge number of students, including teachers and dependents.
“And so that doesn’t mean that we have a lot of students who have been infected, it’s just a warning letter to remind all members of the university community to continue to strictly adhere to all of the security protocols that we have described.
“We have a few students who have been infected but they have been isolated and treated and we have done contact tracing. So far everyone is fine, our isolation centers are all empty at the moment, so there is no need to fear and panic. “
Dr Bekoe says university officials have always ensured that protocols were followed, especially in lecture halls. He reveals that all treatment plans are still active.
