A student at St. Louis High School in Kumasi called false claims by the Ashanti Regional Police Command that no student was beaten during the protest at the school.
Students at the school protested on Monday against a decision by the Ghana Education Service (GES) communicated by the school principal not to allow them to return home for the mid-term break.
Although accusations of assaulting police and military officers sent to the school to restore calm have been denied by the Ashanti Regional Police Command, a third year student recounted how she was beaten in abdomen by a military officer.
“When the military and police entered the school, they entered the dormitories and started beating us because we refused to stop shouting. They kicked us on the ground. Some colleagues had marks on their bodies and some were also bleeding from the canes we were beaten with, ”said a St. Louis 3e a student of the year said in an interview on Starr FM.
According to her, the denial of the assault by the police is false because she was the victim of the assault and was kicked in the stomach by a soldier.
“We were kicked on the ground by soldiers and police. I was kicked in the abdomen by a military officer.
“The police are lying. We were beaten, ”she said.
