Deputy Chairman of Parliament’s Defense and Home Committee said the appointment of COP Dr George Akuffo Dampare as Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) should restore confidence in the police service from Ghana.
According to Ophelia Mensah Hayford, the appointee is someone who is aware of the issues facing the Service, which makes them the right fit for the portfolio.
Speaking on PM Express, she said Dr Dampare, rising through the ranks of the service, had made huge changes during her tenure.
Mrs Hayford added that he is a “man who has diverse knowledge and diverse portfolios within the police force”.
“He worked as an administrator of an auditor, he was in the investigation department and he knows all the problems.
“He was the operations commander before and during his tenure, we saw a lot of changes within the police department, so he came in as Inspector General of Police, I’m positive and I know he’s going change a lot of things, ”she said. say it PM Express from JoyNews.
Ms Hayford noted that Dr Dampare’s appointment will allow her “to improve her game and we will see a different police force in the country”.
“We are going to see a new police force with its new vision of transforming the police service into a world-class service capable of providing a planned, democratic, protective and humane service,” she reaffirmed.
It comes after President Akufo-Addo appointed COP Dr George Akuffo Dampare as interim chief of police.
He succeeds James Oppong-Boanuh, who was appointed in October 2019 after Mr. Oppong-Boanuh was ordered to take terminal leave effective August 1, pending his retirement from the Ghana Police Service on the 7th. October.
