The stumbling block on the way to Kissi Agyebeng is Akufo-Addo – Amaliba

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team, Abraham Amaliba said the only thing that will prevent Special Prosecutor candidate Kissi Agyebeng from being successful is whether President Akufo-Addo will allow him to work hands free or no.

Mr. Agyebeng faced Parliament’s nominating committee on Thursday for its scrutiny and was unanimously approved.

While he is scheduled to eventually receive parliamentary approval to officially become the new special prosecutor, Abraham Amaliba says he wishes him to succeed.

According to the member of the NDC legal team, the success of Kissi Agyebeng, however, will depend on whether President Akufo-Addo will interfere in his work.

“So let’s focus on the presidency and the president, make sure we speak out against the president’s conduct in order to allow Kissi Agyebeng to be successful.” I want him to succeed, but the only stumbling block in Kissi Agyebeng’s path is the president, his interference in the work of independent bodies. And I chronicled, I indicated how Domelevo was sacked, I indicated how it became intolerable for Martin Amidu to remain in power, ”Amaliba said in an interview with TV3.

Amaliba, who is a private lawyer, insists that the focus should be on the presidency to ensure that the special prosecutor’s office has the freedom to function.

“…he [Kissi Agyebeng] he himself told us and warned us a lot that unless it became intolerable, he said it. So again, do we want another special prosecutor to step down? How do you make sure that doesn’t happen? We need to focus our attention on the president and the presidency to keep the office functioning. If this is done, it doesn’t matter to whom God is the ox, even if it is the president’s cousin, let him face the music so if we are able to protect Kissi Agyebeng from the presidency, I am of the opinion that he will succeed.

“But if we allow the presidency to prowl around this office as it did in Martin Amidu’s time when he made it difficult for him to function, I can tell you that we are going to have another resignation or if we will not have another resignation, we will only have another special prosecutor who will only play ball and we will not have the effect of this office at all, ”explained Amaliba.

Once sworn in, Kissi Agyebeng will replace Martin Amidu to become Ghana’s second special prosecutor.
