Martin Nyamlori’s academic journey, which began in 1989, culminated in a bachelor’s degree in public policy and administration from Kenyatta University on Friday, July 24.

Nyamlori’s story is a story of resilience and determination; he has passed the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) national exams nine times and has spent 22 years in different primary schools.

Talk to TUKO.co.ke, the 38-year-old, who bestowed the reading power on Friday (July 23), said it was a miracle he finally graduated after more than three decades of going through the 8.4.4 program.

“I am the happiest person in the world because the journey that started in 1989 ended on Friday. It is indeed a miracle,” he said on Sunday July 24th.

Nyamlori, who now hopes to find formal employment and reap the rewards of his hard work, said escaping poverty was his biggest motivation during all those years when he moved from one primary school to another mainly due to constraints. financial.

“The poverty in my house was too great. We were the poorest in the village. Living in a thatched-roof house. Getting daily meals was almost impossible,” said the graduate.

Sitting for KCPE 9 times

Nyamlori first took the national exams in 1998 at Kipsimbol Primary School where he obtained 478 points. He was admitted to Kabianga secondary school but was unable to join the school due to financial problems.

In 1999, he was back at Standard Eight at Rongo Primary School where he scored 559 points and obtained a letter of admission to Kanga High School.

But this time, things were a little better because his aunt gave him a hand but it was short-lived. During his second term, he left Kanga because his aunt stopped funding his studies.

Nyamlori left school for two years, working as a casual laborer in a flour mill in Nairobi, before deciding to give education another chance.

In 2002, he joined Kitere Primary School, where he obtained 387 points and received a letter of admission to Rapogi High School but no one was willing to fund his studies.

In 2003, he enrolled in Sony Sugar Primary School with 399 points and was called to Rapogi School; in 2004 he was at Rangwe Junior Academy with 434 points and was admitted to Maseno High School but dropped out in the second term.

In 2010 at Agape Kosele academy he scored 401 points and was readmitted to Maranda high.

In 2011, at Oriri Primary, Nyamlori scored 403 points and got his letter of admission to the Nairobi school, where Equity Bank, through the Wings to fly scholarship program, sponsored his high school education.

In 2015, he passed his secondary education certificate in Kenya and obtained a B + of 71 points.

After completing the KCSE, his sponsorship was over, but he was admitted to Kenyatta University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in public policy and administration.

He now has a reason to smile after completing his undergraduate education and is appealing to any employer to give him a job as he now seeks to step into a new chapter.

“My plan for the future is now to give back to the community. I will start with a job and move up,” said the 38-year-old.
