Politicians could be an obstacle to Dampare’s work as IGP

Last Wednesday, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced the appointment of COP Dr George Akuffo Dampare as Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) with effect from August 1.

The 51-year-old succeeds James Oppong-Boanuh, who has been ordered to take terminal leave as of Sunday August 1, 2021, pending his retirement from the police service on Thursday October 7, 2021.

Addressing this during a panel discussion on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Kwesi Pratt, who described COP Dampare as a “man of principle,” said one of the things that would make him very successful is if it does not get any interference from politicians. .

“Whether he succeeds or not is not just up to him, especially looking at how our politicians behave in this country. They may decide to torment you. . . and so it is an obstacle. He may even have opposition from the Police Department; those who think he does not deserve this post, “he said.

He further urged all Ghanaians to help him succeed as he believes he is capable of doing the job given to him.

“This is about the first time that an IGP has been nominated and I haven’t heard anything badly said or anyone raising opposition,” he added.
