Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, has hinted that he will call on parliament to criminalize adultery in the country.
President Nana Addo’s cousin Dankwa Akufo-Addo made no secret of his opposition to the new bill which aims to criminalize LGBTQ + and its related matters in the country.
He has repeatedly condemned the bill which he says could put Ghana on the blacklist of international agencies.
In his latest article on the matter, the private lawyer said he would call on parliament to criminalize adultery because it is an affront to the tenets of the Christian faith to which most Ghanaians subscribe.
“The majority of Ghanaians are Christians. They believe in respecting Christian values. Adultery is a serious sin punishable by death (Lev. 20:10). I therefore propose a petition to Parliament for a private member’s bill for a law against adultery, imposing severe penalties, ”reads his message.
Meanwhile, the executive secretary of the National Coalition for Human Sexual Rights and Appropriate Family Values, Moses Foh-Amoaning, hit back at Gabby for previous comments.
Foh-Amoaning in an interview with Joy FM said Gabby Otchere Darko was speaking from a point of ignorance on the matter.
He explained that the bill, contrary to Gabby’s claims, does not promote hatred towards gays and lesbians but rather prescribes a process of redemption for them.
“I’ve heard Gabby say that those of us promoting the bill are putting Ghana on a blacklist for hate, but if you read the law you’ll notice it’s not of hate.
“Facts and statistics show that we need to galvanize, structure the law and make sure the right things are done. It is not something that we have to leave, if we leave we will be overthrown, ”he said.
“We protect the rights of everyone, including the rights of these LGBTQI activists. It is a bill that promotes human sexual rights and Ghanaian values. Those who accept that this is a medical problem will not be sent to jail. The ones we are looking for are those who say it is a way of life.
“We don’t hate it. He must be very careful with the language he uses. We cannot allow degenerate moral behavior, wrapped up and superimposed on us, as a mode of behavior. It cannot be fair. For my good friend Gabby, I am sorry that he does not become an object of colonialism, ”he added.
