Let’s take advantage of the opportunities offered by climate change

Education Minister Dr Yaw Adutwum has urged world leaders to pay close attention to climate change, and rightly so, they should also consider and take advantage of the opportunities that come with it.

“As much as climate change is an unfortunate situation, we need to look at the opportunities that may arise as we tweak our core curriculum at higher education and also treat it with the same energy that we are dealing with COVID-19 with innovative teaching methods during that we are fighting it. “

Dr Adutwum has provided advice at the ongoing Ministerial Roundtable Conference on Climate Change and Education in the UK.

The roundtable was hosted by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office Department of Education.

It takes place on the sidelines of the World Education Summit in London, which brought together education stakeholders from around the world to share ideas on how to improve the development of global education.

This roundtable is moderated by UK Secretary of State for Education Gavin Williamson.

The other panelists are education ministers from the DRC, Tanzania, Pakistan, Malawi, Sierra Leone and South Sudan, among others.

Some of the questions discussed are: How do you use education to prepare children and young people for the challenge of climate change and what are the main threats to education posed by climate crises in your context and how do you work for them? mitigate?

Dr Adutwum announced that Ghana has measures in place to instill the issues of climate change in the education of the country so that students can understand the problem and know how to position themselves as they move forward in life.

He pledged government support to any institution ready to lend a hand to get the best education and suggested solutions to climate change issues in the country and the rest of the world.

Dr Adutwum is in the UK, accompanying President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, invited by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, to the World Education Summit in London.

The World Education Summit: Funding for the Global Partnership for Education

(GPE) 2021-2025, will be a key moment for the global community to come together and support quality education for all children.

A centerpiece of the summit will be an opportunity for leaders to make a five-year commitment to support GPE’s work to help transform education systems in up to 90 countries and territories.

The other members of the president’s entourage are Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchway and some presidential and foreign ministry officials who are all expected on Sunday, August 1, 2021.
