The 54-year-old businessman was brought to trial in Koforidua district court for filming and posting nude videos of his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend.
He was charged with obscenity in violation of Section 281 (i) B of the Criminal Offense Act, 29/60.
Prosecutor Sergeant George Defia told the court presided over by His Worship Nana Osei Assibey on Tuesday, May 19 that the convict and the victim, a high school dropout, are both from Awukugua in the Okere district of the eastern region.
According to the prosecutor, four years ago, Nana Yaw Mante met the victim who was then 18 and had dropped out of school due to financial difficulties.
Under the pretext of helping her financially to return to school, he took undue advantage and entered into a sexual relationship with her.
The victim’s family became suspicious and confronted the accused but he denied having had sex with the victim. The relationship has hit the rocks due to family disapproval and harassment. However, in 2019 the convict convinced the victim and they got together.
Nana Yaw Mante, afraid of losing the victim again, told her that he had taken her to a shrine and that the gods demanded to see her nakedness.
In November 2019, he lured the victim to Dawu near Adukrom-Akuapem where he recorded a series of sexually explicit videos of themselves.
He then shared the victim’s videos with his aunt and two other men who he said were also dating the victim. The videos went viral on social media in February 2020.
The victim reported the incident to the Domestic Violence Victims and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Koforidua Regional Police Headquarters.
He was arrested on February 7, 2020 and, in his warning, admitted to recording the victim’s sexually explicit videos and sharing them.
Receivers of the videos confirmed to police during questioning that the accused sent them to them but denied having circulated on social media.
