Former Minister of Water Resources, Public Works and Housing Alhaji Collins Dauda has been accused of causing financial losses to the state under the Saglemi housing deal.
Mr Dauda, who oversaw the initiative when the project was approved by parliament, has also been accused of intentionally misappropriating public property.
In detail of the infringements observed by Citi News, he would have intentionally misused $ 200 million “by causing the said amount which had been approved by the Parliament of Ghana for the construction of 5,000 housing units to be applied to the payment of 1,412 housing units under the affordable housing project. of Saglemi ”.
Mr Dauda, the current deputy for Asutifi Sud constituency, has been accused of modifying the original agreement for the Saglemi housing project without recourse to Parliament.
Former Minister of Public Works and Housing Samuel Atta-Akyea, who over the years had made such an allegation against Mr. Dauda said after the agreement was passed by Parliament in October 2012, the Minister of then revised the contract by reducing the number of units to around 1,500 units and later to 1,024 units after another review in 2016.
Four other people also face charges in this case; Kaku Agyeman Mensah, Alhaji Ziblim Yakubu, Andrew Clocans and Nouvi Tetteh Angelo.
Saglemi housing project
The first phase of the Saglemi housing project has 1,500 units and was commissioned by John Mahama in 2016, but has not been used.
The loan agreement was signed between the government and Credit Suisse International for $ 200 million for the construction of 5,000 affordable housing units by Construtora OAS Limited.
The agreement was first tabled in Parliament on September 28, 2012.
The project, which aimed to reduce the country’s massive housing deficit, is located on 300 acres of land with one- to three-bedroom apartments for low-income people.
The project was stalled due to a decision by the Akufo-Addo administration to probe the financial arrangements under the project.
Former Minister of Works and Housing Samuel Atta-Akyea invited the attorney general to review the agreements in October 2018.
