Karriss Artingstall had to settle for a bronze medal after a split decision loss to Japan’s Sena Irie in the featherweight semi-final in Tokyo.

The 26-year-old had put on an exciting final round with a fiery retaliation, but Irie received a 3-2 verdict from the judges.

Artingstall fought off the poll jabs in the first round but was caught by sharp blocks from Irie.

Clapping left hands, Artingstall confused Irie with his sustained aggression in the second.

Artingstall kept up his relentless pressure, hammering hooks, but Irie’s net counters were enough to secure the victory.

Lauren Price won another medal for the GB team boxers after a dominant victory over Atheyna Bylon who secured her a place in the semi-finals at Toyko.

Price justified his reputation as the No.1 seed by outclassing his Panamanian opponent, sealing a 5-0 victory on the scoreboards to win at least one bronze medal.

The 27-year-old, amateur world champion and Commonwealth Games gold medalist, will then face Dutch Nouchka Fontijn in the last four of the middleweight tournament.

Galal Yafai’s progress to the quarter-finals was less comfortable as he edged Patrick Chinyemba in a 3-2 split decision.

With the finely balanced fight, Yafai gained recognition from the judges with his sharp counters in the third round.

But Luke McCormack left the lightweight tournament in the round of 16 after a unanimous decision loss to Cuban Andy Cruz.

Amateur world champion Cruz took the lead in a very competitive opener as he caught McCormack with stiff shots.
