Lewis Hamilton believes he may not yet have fully recovered from contracting Covid-19 after experiencing fatigue and dizziness at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The British driver finished third in a monumental effort to recover from last place at the Hungaroring, but admitted he feared suffering from a long Covid.
After his immense recovery, Hamilton missed the start of the post-race press conferences as he was being treated by his team doctor Mercedes due to fatigue. Afterwards, he said he did not think he had fully recovered from the effects of the virus he contracted in December of last year.
“I’ve been fighting all year with my health after what happened at the end of last year and it’s still a battle,” he said. “I got really dizzy and everything got a bit blurry on the podium.”
The race at the Hungaroring is hot and physically demanding, but Hamilton admitted he could experience symptoms of the form of the virus where health problems persist for months after his first contracture.
“I haven’t told anyone in particular about it, but I think it persists,” he said. “I remember the effects when I first had it. The training has been different since then and the fatigue levels you get are different and it’s a real challenge. So I keep trying to train and prepare as best I can. Who knows what it is today? Maybe it’s hydration, but I certainly haven’t had that experience. I had something similar at Silverstone but it’s much worse.
Hamilton also gave his wholehearted support to Sebastian Vettel, who received a reprimand from the FIA for not removing his rainbow-colored t-shirt with the words ‘Same Love’ on it, in support. to the targeted LGBTQ + community in Hungary. by repressive laws.
FIA rules state that T-shirts must be removed before national anthems and Vettel did not. He was optimistic before he spoke to the flight attendants. “I’m happy if they disqualify me,” he said. “They can do whatever they want with me, I don’t care. I would do it again. “
