Did someone point a gun at your head to donate? – Deputy boss of MASLOC for critics

Afia Akoto, Deputy Director General of the Center for Microfinance and Small Loans (MASLOC) responded to criticism of a recent fundraising appeal for the National Cathedral.

In a Facebook post, Afia Akoto blamed critics of the initiative and criticized them for not being good representatives of the Christian faith.

She noted that during the fundraising campaign for the National Mosque, people of the Muslim faith came together to support the project, but in the case of the cathedral, Christians who she said should encourage people to donating are the ones that turn people off.

She reminded critics that Ken Ofori-Atta was succinct in his announcement that the donation is voluntary.

“I have never heard our Muslim brothers and sisters complain about the contributions to the beautiful national mosque that we are all proud of today. Unfortunately, the things I read on this street are from those we think of as Christians. A devotee cannot decide for a believer, and please who put a weapon on your hearts and heads to contribute to the National Cathedral?

“If ‘you’ all can’t stand it, shhh! and allow some of us who understand what it means to be part of its construction to do so voluntarily. I pray that true believers will join our hearts to see the end of this. Chalom! ”His message read.

The National Cathedral is in the news again after Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta introduced a new fundraising mechanism when reading the mid-year budget review last week.

Ken Ofori-Atta called on Ghanaians to donate GH ¢ 100 each month for the project which is expected to end in March 2024.

“Work on the National Cathedral is progressing rapidly. When completed, the National Cathedral would provide a sacred space for the state’s formal religious activities and symbolize the tremendous contribution of faith to nation-building, ”he said.

“This state-church partnership envisaged by the president to develop the national cathedral is on track. An initiative, the GH ¢ 100 per month also dubbed ‘Ketoa Biaa Nsua, will be launched by the administrators of the National Cathedral on August 12, 2021, to give the greatest number of Ghanaians the opportunity to be part of the history of the National Cathedral Cathedral “.
