In Tunisia, vaccination against Covid-19 is accelerating given the high number of cases in this North African country.
The country, which is struggling to contain its Delta variant outbreak, hopes to vaccinate half of its population by mid-October.
Tunisians are now optimistic about the vaccine and hope the country will meet its target.
“It was not optimal management, but they are doing what they can and we are on the right track, I believe,” said one resident.
Mohammed Aziz, a resident of Tunis also said:
“What happened is a great relief: they ousted those responsible, people are getting vaccinated … The situation is finally starting to improve.”
Nearly 1,200 people received their vaccine against Covid-19 in one day at the official vaccination center of El Menzah in Tunis. This represents a 300% increase from the previous days.
“At first the figures were very low: around 400-500 citizens vaccinated per day. But yesterday it was a participation of 1200 vaccinated in one day, out of the 1600-1 700 summoned,” said Dr Hela Kchir. , team leader at the El Menzah vaccination center said.
Faced with the spread of the Delta variant and the lack of oxygen in its hospitals, Tunisia is currently in a critical situation.
This small Maghreb country of nearly 12 million inhabitants has one of the worst official death rates in the world, with nearly 20,000 deaths linked to the new coronavirus.
