Two NGOs join forces to promote quality education in Obuasi

The Spare a Piece of Bread Foundation (SAPOB) in partnership with the Ghana ICT Skills Hub presented items ranging from chairs, books, stationery and other learning materials to the Holy Child Preparatory School of Obuasi.

According to the leaders of the two organizations, some of whom are former students of the school, the move was aimed at promoting quality education in the municipality and helping to instill the habit of reading in school children.

According to Ghana Program Director I.CT Skills Hub, Evans Gyakye will help promote and foster quality education and reduce inequalities.

He said the books and other learning materials were sponsored by Catherine Assink of Grange Academy in England as part of their “Ubuntu Project”, a quality intercultural education project aimed at improving the learning behaviors of children. Ghanaian students in several schools.

Mr. Gyakye advised the students to be resourceful and cultivate the habit of reading more books, understanding the lessons to improve their academic performance. He further urged them to visit the library regularly to gain more knowledge.

Presenting the articles to the school on behalf of both groups, Ms. Josephine Osei, National Director of the Spare a Piece of Bread Foundation, thanked the school authorities for their hard work and dedication to the success of the school.

“We are convinced that this gesture will go a long way in improving the quality of education in Holy Child and in the entire Obuasi municipality. We promise to come back with more material.” She advised students to take their academic work seriously and to use the school library. This, she added, will strengthen their ability to excel in their exams and enable the school to maintain its high academic standards.

The Head of Holy Child School, Mr. Amos Asante, who received the articles on behalf of the school, thanked SAPOB and Ghana ICT Skills Hub for giving back to society and contributing their quota towards achieving the goals of sustainable development (SDGs) in Ghana.

He called on other alumni and other groups to help the school furnish their science lab. “We will keep these items with our hearts and put them to great use,” said Amos Asante.
