High unemployment, bankruptcy of companies, separation of Arnold and Maria after 25 years of marriage. Damn, can’t we as humans get just one proof that the universe is wrong? shit on us today? That the recession doesn’t make one more good person lose self-confidence?
Enter Mark and Karen Vojtek.
The Vojteks had a dream. They dreamed of opening their own business. They made that dream come true in Tempe seven years ago in the form of Culinary solutions, a small family cafe. Then the economy collapsed. And like many small businesses, the Vojteks have braced themselves for financial ruin and their dream come true.
It was then that the community of Tempe said, “Surely not.”
News of the Vojteks’ predicament got out and the news spread quickly. It wasn’t long before several local businesses helped the couple renovate. And, for the most part, do free.
The Vojtek Good People Project has a name: “Saving Mark’s Café”. The goal? Stimulate business by transforming the current Culinary Solutions Café into Mark’s Café. On board are an interior design company, videographers, photographer, public relations professional, web designer, project manager and graphic designer.

“The love and awareness of our local community and loyal customers has been incredible,” said Karen Vojtek, co-owner of Mark’s Café. “We are very grateful to everyone who came together to help save our business.”
The tentative date for the reopening of Mark’s Cafe is Wednesday, May 18.
