All hell broke loose on UTV’s United Showbiz on Saturday when Kwame Asare Obeng, known in the showbiz space as A-Plus, verbally assaulted fellow panelist Halifax Ansah-Addo and unequivocally , threatened to physically assault him.
The explosion, which received wide condemnation, began following an explanation given by A-Plus for his absence at the #FixTheCountry protest held on August 4 while he was a strong advocate for the movement.
A-Plus, host of the People’s Project (TPP), without mince words, called the exercise “jogging” insisting that it had no purpose.
“The era of screaming is over. I don’t jog and am out of shape; my understanding of exercise and demonstration are two different things… let’s get serious in this country. What was the plan, what is the end goal? A-Plus argued.
The political activist and satirist further mentioned that while he recognized the essence of advocacy creations, it was imperative that people appreciate decentralization and local government, and take a stand to effect the changes they want instead. to engage in unsuccessful ventures.
“You can’t change a constitution by holding a sign and standing by the side of the road. I agree that there should be demonstrations in the country, but I tell you that the demonstration must have an end goal, ”he said.
“Next year there will be district level elections. What is the plan of the youth knowing that the members of the assembly and the district committee are the parliamentarians of the district assembly? What is the plan of the people to go and take the position of the congregation member so that they control the congregation? A-Plus added.
He hinted that although he did not show up at the protest, his “boys” were present after giving them the green light to participate. This “moving forward,” he said, “came with a caveat – do not wear the TPP t-shirt for the protest.
Analyzing A-Plus’s submission, Halifax couldn’t understand why A-Plus refused to participate, but asked its “boys” to join the protesters if indeed the exercise was unnecessary.
This resulted in an altercation with A-Plus resorting to the use of non-printable words.
It took the intervention of host Abeiku Santana and co-panelist Lawrence Nana Asiama Hanson (Bulldog) to calm the nerves of A Plus who reluctantly apologized on request.
