KAMPALA, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) – Uganda resumed its COVID-19 vaccination exercise on Monday after weeks of stock-outs, an official told KAMPALA on Monday.
“Please contact the nearest vaccination center for your second COVID-19 injection of the AstraZeneca vaccine. It is free, safe and effective,” Health ministry spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyoona said via Twitter.
After running out of vaccines last month, the country received donated doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from Norway and doses of Sinovac vaccine from the Chinese government.
The East African country, according to the health ministry, expects to receive at least 12.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines by early 2022.
Uganda is aiming to immunize around 22 million people, or nearly half of the population, in order to put the pandemic at bay. According to ministry data, around 1.1 million people have been vaccinated since the start of the fiscal year in March of this year.
As the country waits for more vaccines, the ministry urged the public to continue to adhere to COVID-19 prevention measures, such as avoiding mass gatherings and hand sanitizing, among others. Final element
