Ken Ofori-Atta is the main culprit in the Sputnik V vaccine saga, he must resign – Sammy Gyamfi

The head of national communications for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused the finance minister of being the “main culprit” in the botched Sputnik V vaccine contract with the intermediary Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum.

Sammy Gyamfi, in a statement Tuesday, claimed that it was the finance minister who made the payment of 16 million yen without parliamentary approval.

Thus, one wondered why most of the population focused only on the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, on the deal.

“Why isn’t anyone claiming the head of this corrupt finance minister?” Is it because he is the president’s cousin? he asked.

For the outspoken politician, the misdeeds of Mr. Ofori-Atta transcend this purchase of Sputnik V vaccine to other faults that have caused financial losses to the state.

“Why are we focusing too much on the Minister of Health in discussing the botched Sputnik vaccine supply deal when the main culprit is none other than Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta, who without the parliamentary approval, paid 160 billion old Ghanaian cedis [sic] to the Sheikh of Dubai.

“This is the same person who, without any transparent selection process, hired and paid his own company, Enterprise Insurance, a whopping 110 billion old Ghanaian cedis. [sic] as a Covid-19 insurance premium for health workers, ”he added.

For this reason, the head of communications demanded the immediate dismissal of the Minister of Finance.

“Ken Ofori Atta’s reckless conduct in paying millions of Ghanaian cedis for illegal vaccine supply contract makes it imperative that Parliament immediately conduct a bipartisan inquiry into all government spending on Covid-19 and related issues . But even before that, #KenOforiAttaMustResign. “
