AEW

AEW is extremely hot right now, and it could get a lot hotter in the coming weeks. Rumors abound about two new major signatories: Bryan “Daniel Bryan” Danielson and CM Punk. Neither has been confirmed, but CM Punk rumors have gained popularity in recent weeks, with AEW himself teasing a Punk vs. Darby Allin clash, possibly at All Out.

All Out takes place on September 5 at Chicago’s Now Arena and will be a big show even without Punk. We already know the main event: Kenny Omega defending his AEW championship against Christian Cage. Plus, we’re almost guaranteed to see Chris Jericho take on MJF.

CM Punk rumors

To be clear, CM Punk is not confirmed to appear on the show. But there was at least a strong hint that Punk is coming to AEW. The whispers began with a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, one of wrestling’s most trusted journalists. Sapp reported on July 22 that CM Punk was in talks with AEW for a return to the ring.

During the Dynamite episode on July 28, a special edition of Rampage, AEW’s upcoming TV show, was announced. It will be called The First Dacne and will come out of the United Center in Chicago. (Prime ministers rampage this Friday.)

After that, AEW announced First Dance, a special episode of the AEW Rampage TV show that will be released from the United Center in Chicago. (Rampage debuts this Friday.) With punk synonymous with Chicago, the Dynamite crowd erupted into a “CM Punk” chant. In the next segment, Darby Allin said that AEW is the only place to prove that you are the best – “even if you think you are the best in the world”.

“The best in the world” was CM Punk’s nickname during his WWE run. With Darby’s hint to punk coming right after the Chicago show’s announcement, the wrestling world has taken this as confirmation that Punk is set to appear on Rampage next Friday and wrestle at All Out. Also note that AEW has two big shows in Chicago – The First Dance on August 20, then All Out on September 5 – which is unusual.

On August 11, Fightul’s Sapp reported that CM Punk was training for a return to the ring. A day later, Punk appeared on the Sunday Night’s Main Event radio show in which he implausibly claimed he could host a screening of an episode of Heelz, a TV show on the professional wrestling theme, and that Darby’s “best in the world” reference was probably a reference to Daniel Bryan.
