GII says Agyeman-Manu should be sacked like any other public official caught in the act GII says Agyeman-Manu should be sacked like any other public official caught in the act

• GII supported calls for the dismissal of the Minister of Health

• Mary Ada of GII said public officials do not have the luxury of justifying wrongdoing

• The botched purchase of the Sputnik V vaccine violated the constitutional provisions of the law on public procurement

The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) has insisted that calls for the sacking of the health minister are in order, adding that the president must sack him.

GII’s program manager, Mary Ada, said Kwaku Agyeman-Manu’s excuse that he was confused about the controversial purchase of Sputnik V vaccines should not be accepted, especially because it does not failed to pass through Parliament.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News, she noted, “There’s no reason he should still be in office. We all agree that due process was not followed, we all agree too and he himself agreed that he did not seek parliamentary approval, he did not also didn’t go through the cabinet to seek approval and decided it was under pressure, and he was confused. “

She believed that as a public officer, the minister should be accountable for his actions. The GII program manager maintained that due process must be followed and “due diligence is strengthened in this country”.

“Any public officer who agrees to do his job and agrees to be a public officer knows the scope and demands of the office and cannot justify any wrongdoing or confusion or the demands of the time. We need to make sure that the processes are followed and that due diligence is strengthened in this country. So those who do evil should be called to order like another Ghanaian, and Kwaku Agyeman-Manu is no different. He must therefore be called to the emergency order.

Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu is under heavy pressure from all sides to throw in the towel and step down after his blunder on buying Sputnik V vaccines in the country.

Following revelations in the report of the parliamentary committee that examined the Sputnik V vaccine contract, members of minorities in parliament called for the immediate dismissal or resignation of the Minister of Health.

Among other things, the commission’s report revealed that Mr. Agyeman-Manu had violated the constitutional provisions relating to parliamentary approval as well as the law on public procurement.

Following calls for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to dismiss the minister, the president broke his silence during his two-day tour of the Bono region on Tuesday, August 10, 2021.

“There are a lot of people from the Bono area in my government; including the Minister of Health, who is currently receiving slaps [from Ghanaians]. He is a native of Dormaa. He really suffered in this Ministry of Health and still suffers, ”he said with a laugh.
