The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, and his wife, Professor Lamendorf Ofori-Atta through the Ken and Angela Foundation under the auspices of Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin built and handed over a 6 bedroom building to the hospital government of Kyebi. in the eastern region.

During a brief handover ceremony on Friday August 13, 2021 in Kyebi, the Etwienanahene, also the Ahenenanahene of the traditional area of Akyem Abuakwa, Barima Kwaku Duah, on behalf of the Ken and Angela Foundation, said that the he government hospital in Kyebi serves a wider population beyond Abuakwa. In the Southern Municipality, however, it was observed that doctors and other essential healthcare workers were reluctant to accept an assignment due to accommodation issues in the area.

He said that one of the foundation’s priority areas is improving quality health care in Kyebi and Akyem Abuakwa by extension.

“One of the basic requirements for the development of any society is the provision of good health care. There is no doubt that the vital component of delivering quality health care is ensuring that its health workforce is treated properly with respect and dignity in all areas of their lives. This is a key factor in motivating staff to be the best they can be, which in turn stimulates healthcare delivery and improves healthcare, ”he said.

Barima Kwaku Duah also pointed out that the foundation provided medical logistics and support to the Kyebi government hospital.

According to Dr Richard Nii Darku Dodoo, medical superintendent of the Kyebi government hospital, due to inadequate accommodation, some key clinicians assigned to the facility had not yet taken up their duties.

“Kyebi public hospital has 4 doctors and a dentist. Two of the medical advisers are accommodated in temporary accommodation. The dentist has not yet started work due to accommodation issues. The hospital also received anesthesia and a pharmacist but all were placed in temporary accommodation, ”he said.

He therefore hoped that the accommodation facility offered at the hospital would help improve the housing problem that had plagued the hospital for decades.

Kyebi Adadentem Chief Barima Gyansie Koree on behalf of Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin urged the hospital management to ensure a high maintenance culture for longevity.

Abuakwa South Municipal Health Director Augustina Nartey told Starr News that the Kyebi Government Hospital is a referral center for health facilities in the municipality and other surrounding districts. in emergency situations.

The challenge of decent housing remains a major setback for clinicians stationed in peri-urban and rural areas of the country.

The situation has led many doctors to refuse to visit such areas, creating huge gaps and an inequitable distribution of health workers.

Currently, around 50% of the country’s doctors are concentrated in the Greater Accra region, while around 20% are in the Ashanti region.
