A teacher in the municipality of Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) in the Central region faces sanctions after making three girls pregnant in the same class.
Dr Kyeremeh Tawiah Dabone, lecturer at the University of Cape Coast Counseling Center exposed the unprofessional conduct of said teacher at a seminar organized by the Ghana Education Service Counseling and Guidance Center in Kwadaso in the Ashanti region.
The seminar was organized to educate school counselors on the need for counselors to offer psychosocial support to schoolchildren.
Dr Kyeremeh noted that the situation is very worrying and threatens the future prospects of young girls in the municipality.
According to the lecturer from the University of Cape Coast, a formal complaint has been filed against the teacher and is expected to face the appropriate penalties for his conduct.
Dr Kyeremeh Tawiah Dabone revealed that due to restrictions put in place to help the government fight the Covid-19 pandemic, children, especially schoolgirls, have had to endure all forms of abuse which are unusual and resulted in psychological disturbances. effects in children.
He said that in addition to the three girls impregnated by the teacher in the same class, seven other girls were impregnated by their relatives in the municipality of Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem.
For his part, the Kwadaso Municipal Education Coordinator of the GES Counseling and Guidance Unit, Mr. Stephen Asare Brew said the abuse has physiologically affected children, leading to suicide in some of them. between them.
He said sexual abuse by teachers is against the GES staff code of ethics while stressing that GES is committed to punishing any teacher involved in the act.
He further urged students who are victims of sexual abuse between teachers and students to report to the relevant authorities.
He said failing to do so made it difficult to impose sanctions on teachers.
